Description des services: Community legal Clinic * summary legal advice and legal representation for low income people in Brampton, Caledon and Dufferin * initial advice by telephone, clients seen by appointment only * legal services in areas of employment, immigration, housing and social assistance

Provide advice and assistance in the following areas of law:

Housing: for tenants only – not landlords * tenant rights, evictions, filing tenant applications, rent subsidy being cut off, co-op evictions

Immigration: do not assist with refugee applications * humanitarian and compassionate ground applications, sponsorship breakdown, applications for permanent residence, loss of status and deportation proceedings, regularizing status in Canada (work, study, visitor and temporary resident permits) and issues related to obtaining citizenship

Employment: wrongful dismissal, Employment Standards Act issues, Employment Insurance, workplace harassment

Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP): denied disability appeals, suspensions, cancellations, overpayments and appeals

Ontario Works (OW): denied applications, suspensions, cancellations, overpayments and appeals

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and CPP-Disability: appeals of denied benefits or issues while receiving CPP

Old Age Security (OAS): including denied applications

Provides legal education seminars in areas of law specialized by the clinic, and participates in law reform and community development efforts

Provides information on:
  • abuse and family violence
  • criminal law
  • debt and consumer rights
  • family law
  • French language rights
  • health and disability
  • help from lawyers and paralegals
  • human rights
  • refugee law
  • tribunals and courts
  • wills and powers of attorney

Does not provide services in family, refugee or criminal law



Frais: •free service, although clients may be asked to reimburse the legal clinic for disbursements (such as payment for medical reports or filing fees)
